1981 - Kool & the Gang earned a No. 1 hit with their classic, “Celebration.” The song became the theme song of that year’s Super Bowl and was played for 52 American hostages once they returned to the US from Iran.
1990 - Singer Del Shannon took his own life.
2002 - Scheduled for demolition, the wooden church stage where John Lennon met Paul McCartney was saved after the Liverpool City Council voted to dismantle and store the iconic meeting place.
