The Rock History Report for July 25th

1965 - Bob Dylan took the stage at the Newport Jazz Festival with an electric guitar in tow, marking the first time the folk legend played a non-acoustic set. He was booed, yet refused to get off the stage.

1966 - In San Francisco, The Rolling Stones played their last U.S. gig with guitarist Brian Jones.

1967 – A number of U.K. rock groups including The Beatles urged the British government to legalize marijuana. Their comments were published in a London Times advertisement which was signed by The Fab Four.

1969 - Neil Young first appeared with Crosby, Stills and Nash. Their second gig would be a few weeks later, at a “small intimate show, on a farm in upstate New York…”

1970 – Chicago released the song "25 or 6 to 4.”

1971 - The Beach Boys released the album Surf's Up.

1980 - KISS introduced new drummer Eric Carr at a concert at the Paladium in New York City.

1980 - AC\DC released their first album with new lead singer Brian Johnson, Back In Black.

2006 - After leading the charge against original online file-sharing site Napster, Metallica issued four of their albums on iTunes. Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All included previously unreleased tracks.
